Many coffee drinkers are worried about whether or not coffee has more caffeine than other types of coffee. They assume that the more caffeine coffee has, the more harmful it is to their health. But is that really true? Do all coffee drinks have the same amount of caffeine?
Researchers from the National Cancer Institute conducted a study on the effects of coffee. They looked at over one thousand men and women and found that coffee drinkers were more likely to develop some form of cancer. In fact, the study estimates that coffee drinkers are fifty times more likely to develop certain types of cancer than people who do not drink coffee per day. Does this mean that coffee is a dangerous drug? Not necessarily.
What researchers found out in their study was that coffee contains large amounts of what is called “non-carcinogens”. Non-carcinogens are not as harmful as caffeine but still cause changes in the body. This includes the formation of non-cancerous tumors. High temperatures affect the body’s ability to remove toxins, which increases the amount of acrylamides that are produced by cancer cells.
The reason that coffee has more acrylamides in its structure than other drinks is because coffee intake is much higher in the United States compared to coffee intake in Europe. In the United States, coffee is consumed in huge amounts each day, about three and a half cups for every person. This means that the amount of acrylamides in coffee is much higher than in other drinks, such as soda, and tea. That is why scientists believe that coffee can increase your risks of both cancer and heart disease. For the record, they did find that coffee increased the risks of stroke and coronary artery disease.
However, there is good news: Coffee does have some cancergenic compounds, such as polyphenols. Polyphenols are not cancergenic by themselves, but when they are combined with other cancerogenic chemicals, such as parabens, they become cancerogenic. They have been linked with breast cancer and the development of tumors on the breast, esophagus, and larynx. There is still no definitive proof that parabens cause cancer; therefore it is recommended that you avoid them and only consume coffee if you are sure that it was made from organically grown coffee trees. Other compounds that have been linked with cancer include estrogens and phytoestrogens, both of which are formed from diet. Estrogen is considered to stimulate the immune system, and may be responsible for cancer of the uterus, ovaries and other tissues. Phytoestrogens, on the other hand, are thought to mimic estrogen in the human body, which is why pregnant women are at increased risk of developing cancer of the breast, ovaries and other tissues. Studies have shown that the combination of these two compounds inhibits the activity of cells that metabolize fat, meaning that more fat is built up inside the body and that can lead to obesity, heart disease, stroke and cancer.
The best way to judge whether coffee has too much acrylamide in its pure form is to add milk and/or sugar to the brew, to dilute the flavor and extract more flavor and nutrients. If the coffee tastes good and provides the minerals and vitamins that you need, then it’s probably not an unhealthy beverage. But if it causes a coffee hangover or other uncomfortable side effects, then you should take note and move on to another brew.
Some groups are concerned about the health benefits of drinking coffee. But, there is no clear evidence linking coffee with cancer or other health risks. While coffee does contain compounds that could potentially cause cancers, it’s unclear whether these are caused by the type of coffee, the way it’s consumed or the chemicals added during the brewing process. There are several healthy benefits of drinking coffee, including its mineral and vitamin content. For now, it’s best to stick with water or tea when you’re attempting to decide whether or not the coffee has more acrylamide than other brands.
